Top Trends for Spring/Summer 2013

As the sun starts to peer through the clouds it’s time to start detoxing that wardrobe and updating our wardrobe for the spring/summer season. This season less is more and I don’t mean what you wear! You only need to buy a few items to take you through the season. Spring/Summer 2013 is about key statement pieces that are timeless and will be classics in your wardrobe long after the last barbecue has burnt out. Here are some of the top looks for Spring/Summer:

Monochrome

Black and white patterns on skirts, leggings, tops and dresses are everywhere right now, from Aztec style prints to polka dots and stripes. If you only buy one item from this list make it a monochrome must have. Stripy black and white dresses as well as checkerboard pencil skirts are great for the office as well as a night out. Black and white fashions continue to defy time and will make great investment pieces.

Tailored Look

Navy-Tailoring

This spring is about crisp elegant minimalist dressing and this is done in no better way than smart tailoring. Think crisp oversized white shirt with tailored peg leg trousers or skinny tailored jeans. The 90’s look is also being rocked this season, so why not add a baggy pair of trousers to a tailored shirt?

Graphic

Bold graphic prints on dresses and tops are sure to brighten up a dull spring day. Bold combinations of prints and colour clashing are the order of the day.  Mix up graphic prints, slogan t-shirts and chequered patterns for a bold look.

Biker Chick

The classic biker jacket has graced the catwalk for a few years and in 2013 it’s still a firm staple. Bomber jackets in denim as well as faux/leather are a great look and teamed with a pretty floral dress can create an edgier look.

Floral

From Holly Fulton’s graphic flower prints to muted florals, flower power was well and truly centre stage on the New York runways. Whether you want to embrace a sixties vibe or go for a subtler look, the floral look can be donned by anyone – unlike the bare midriff trend of 2013!

Oriental

East meets west as the orient makes a mark on the catwalks in New York. Oriental fashion means rich textures and fabrics, embroidered tops complete with kimono style sleeves and origami pleats.

Metallics

No-one’s suggesting you wear metallics head to toe and look like you should be baked in an oven. However subtle flashes of metallic in shoes and handbags will have you rocking the trend nicely.

Skirts with Slits

How daring are you feeling? If you don’t mind showing a bit of leg then high slit skirts are a trend for you. Slits on skirts and dresses are everywhere. If you’re not feeling as brave, consider wearing leggings under a skirt or dress or wearing a maxi skirt with a slit below the knee.
