How to Look Like You Just Came from 2016 Oscars by Gabriella Diesendorf

Gabriella gives us tips on how to look like our favourite celebrity from the Oscars 2016 Red Carpet. And the best thing: all these tips are within our budget!1

The biggest awards night in film industry featured all of our favourite celebrities who looked stunning in their fabulous gowns, and sophisticated suits. Polished hair, flawless skin and make-up made the actresses radiant and perfectly complemented the gorgeous dresses. With an entire glam squad on their disposal, it is no wonder they looked so great. Well, fortunately a few inexpensive tricks will help you achieve the red carpet look in no time.

Repurpose

2

Jennifer Lawrence’s lavish black couture gown with built in corset looked amazing on the red carpet. Considering we are not that lucky to pay thousands of dollars on couture dresses, repurposing is the best alternative. I am sure your prom dress looked amazing, but you thought that was the only time you are going to wear it. It does not have to be the case. If you have a wedding to attend, or some black tie event, try to redesign it, or take it to the tailor. He or she will make the necessary changes that will turn the dress in an appropriate attire for the event. Every time you go shopping for the new elegant clothes focus on pieces that can be used more than once. A black dress is everlasting piece of clothing and it can be combined with various blazers, heels, and accessories.

Shop on Sales

4

Timeless chic red gown Charlize Theron worn at the Oscars was truly breathtaking. This plunging Christian Dior design can easily be replicated by any tailor. Of course, it will probably not look exactly like the original, but you can bet it will be pretty close.

Shopping in advance may not occur to you, but it will pay off. The wardrobe is most affordable at the end of the season, when the new collection is about to hit the stores. Even if you do not plan on going to a glamorous event, if you find an affordable piece of wardrobe or jewellery buy it and store it in your closet. Once the time comes, you will be prepared, and not have to spend a fortune shopping in the mid of the season.

Hair and Make-up

3

From long wavy hair, through short slick to beautiful elegant buns, this year Oscar nominees and presenters worn it all. They have spent hours sitting in the chair having their glam squad doing their hair and make-up simultaneously, making them look flawless.

You can have your own red carpet team, just bring all your friends together. Every one of them is probably skilful in some beauty area. If you know how to contour, but have a trouble matching the eye shadow with the rest of the look, that is where the friend jumps in. The same goes for the hair. All you need is a straight or curling iron, a brush and a hairspray. Browse through You Tube and you will find the tutorial for every single look you liked and want to achieve for your evening.

Flawless Skin

While perfect outfit, hair and make-up might seem as the most important part of the gorgeous look, something else plays the crucial role. Nothing can make you look unattractive the way a problematic skin can. Even the best make-up in the world can fail to hide the acne that appear on your face from time to time. This is why the acne treatment is the best solution for problematic skin. Get rid of the acne completely, before you start putting layers of make-up on the face. If not treated properly, make-up can only make the acne condition worse. You do not want your face to draw the attention away from the fabulous outfit you managed to pull off for that special evening.

Believe it or not, it is not always necessary to spend thousands of dollars in order to look amazing. These few tips and tricks will provide you with the gorgeous look, and save you money at the same time.

How To Match Your Accessories With Your Clothing by Pallavi Soni

Looking to make a heady impression tonight? Adorning the best dress from your wardrobe might not be enough when you’re surrounded by fashion conscious people all around. Complementing your clothes with the perfect accessories might just do the trick since accessories possess the capability to make or break a look and bring out the best in your wardrobe.

Therefore, while selecting accessories, you must ensure that it enhances your attire and personality and is worn keeping the occasion in mind. You can match your outfit and the accessory by keeping into consideration, the style and colour of your chosen outfit. If you choose to adorn patterns, then try to keep the jewelry simple in order to give it a neat finish, ensuring that your fashion accessory does not clash with your outfit. On the other hand, if you choose to adorn a monotone ensemble, then opt for big, bold, and bright accessories in order to provide a glamorous and edgy appearance to your overall personality.

Colour Scheme: The most important element

Experiment extensively, in order to find colours that work best for you and your skin tone. It is advisable to avoid mixing colours such as red and green. Also, it is always a good idea to adorn shades of primary colours with accessories of secondary colours since they work well together when matched on the same level of darkness or lightness.  Accessories of any colour can match your outfit if you choose to adorn the colour black or white.

Always Keep Your Neckline Into Consideration When Selecting Accessories

If you choose to wear collared clothing and halters, then look out for short chains for pendants while turtle necks go well with a longer chain length. Short pendants would also ideally match your V-neck while you should avoid wearing bulky and heavy necklaces that appear out of place.

What is the Occasion?

Opt for delicate jewellery and accessories for office-wear while you can add more bling and colour if your day’s itinerary includes fun elements such as shopping, picnics or other leisure activities.

When shopping for accessories, keep in mind the versatility that they offer. It is not a good idea to buy a pair of stilettos because they are in sync with a particular dress, but do not match the rest of your wardrobe. You can only have limited accessories but try purchasing ones that work with most of your outfits. Koovs.com has a good collection of versatile accessories that could save you from the much dreaded fashion faux pas.

So prepare to make an impeccable choice in terms of accessories and prepare to stand apart from the rest of the crowd.

Fall Just Might Be the Perfect Time to Buy a Swimsuit by Roxana Oliver

Wait, what? Yes, you’ve read it right – there is probably no better time in the year than fall to go out and splurge on summer-y pieces. To anyone who understands the way discounts work, it is absolutely expected for the fall to be the season to wait for in order to get some fine rags on your back.

Even though the summer is gone (we are just as sad as you are), it’s never too early to start buying things for the next one. After all, with the summer over, you are avoiding the craze brought about with the season and you are finally in the place where you can stop and think before you reach for that swimsuit even though it doesn’t flatter your figure! Additionally, with the swimwear sales going wild during fall, you’ll probably manage to find yourself great deals!

We’ve put together a pretty helpful tutorial on how to pick a swimsuit that flatters your build so read carefully and memorize!

Pear shape

pear

For girls who are fuller in their bottom part, with their hips, thighs and bum accentuated and their top pretty smaller in comparison, the key to the perfect swimsuit is balancing your proportions. Depending on what you like, you can either get the top part of the swimsuit bigger so it proportions with the bottom or get the coverage you need for your bottom half. We’d recommend a clean-skirted bottom that falls just below the largest part of the upper leg if you are looking to get a traditional fix. Also, to balance bottom and top out, opt for a pushup plunging neckline –that way the eye will be drawn upward, minimizing the bottom. You should further avoid a boy short or thick-banded bottom. Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez are girls we look up to for this body part, so – be free to copy these celebrity beauties!

Curvy

curvyswim

Ah, curvy. The popular shape of today, owing it all to Armenian beauty Kim Kardashian. Merilyn Monroe was the one to make us fall in love with the shape but after a few decades of slim built, we are back to where we started – love for hips, full bust, thighs, and plump behind!

If you were blessed with this frame, choose a swimsuit that will providing enough support and coverage. Why coverage? Well, one thing is emphasizing your curves while getting vulgar with what you wear is completely the other, with the line between them being pretty thin. If, however, you don’t want your curves that “out there”, steer clear of monokinis or string bikinis with thicker ties, and go for a high waist bottom.

Athletic

athletic

For girls like Jen Aniston, Jessica Biel or Cameron Diaz, curves aren’t that much in the picture. You are probably sporting of a model-like frame, the straight up-and-down figure. The key to looking stunning with your frame is to flaunt it!  The illusion of a shapelier figure is achieved with suits with less coverage. To add that feminine flair and intrigue to your frame, opt for tops or bottoms with ruffles, bold prints and embellishments. That way you will create the appearance of more curve at top and bottom. Colorblocking can add to the curvaceous drama, too as can monokinis.  Tie-side bikini bottoms enhance curves and adjust perfectly to your size.

So, when for are you planning your next shopping spree? With all these cool advice, we bet it’s for today!

Cosplay Ideas For 2015 by Kate Flannery

October has started and very soon it’s going to be Halloween! Kate has some great suggestions on cosplay ideas for this year and I hope they are going to help you decide your costume. Happy Halloween!

What an exciting year 2015 was for cosplayers. When big summer hits raid the box office, the level of hype is going through the roof. Comic Con 2015 has also left us enthralled, and supplied us with many brilliant costume ideas.  From superheroes and royalty to villains and wrongdoers, there is no shortage of engaging material for a cosplayer to get inspired.

Before getting into your favorite character’s costume, however, note that it can cost an arm and a leg. Cosplay is known to be a very expensive hobby. That’s why professional cosplayers and seasonal Halloween costume crafters alike make the most out of dollar stores and coupons and promotional codes.

Animated Fun

cosplay

Japanese anime is receiving a great deal of love from cosplayers around the world. Everyone seems to like cute magic girls from Puella Magi Madoka Magica. This trend, featuring awesome costumes and weapon props shows no sign of fading away. Also keep in mind that Sailor Moon outfits are not only the ultimate female evergreen cosplay, but they can also easily be used in fun mashups.  Older series such as Cardcaptor Sakura never seize to amaze, and Inuyasha and Princess Mononoke are guaranteed crowd-pleasers.

The Good, the Bad and the Worst

One of the most entertaining and popular TV shows in the last few years, Breaking Bad, blew away TV fans in India and the rest of the world alike. The bad guy we love to love, Walter White, the most recognizable chemistry teacher in the world, kept thousands of fans in denial of his criminal activities, and made chemistry class a whole lot more fun (until chem students came to terms that nobody will be cooking meth on school grounds). You can go for a yellow jumpsuit, a gas mask, and thick plastic-framed glasses, and for the fun effect, mix up some blue rock candy to fool trick-or-treaters and win the hearts of fellow fans.

Game of Costumes

GoT

Game of Thrones was the first in the new wave of quality television – it paved the way for other highly praised dramas such as Breaking Bad, True Detective and House of Cards. GoT didn’t just win us over with its clever plot and dialogue, but also – and mainly – with its stunning scenery and insane costumes. It changed the face of fantasy and medieval costumes for good, and with so many striking characters, the only question is who to choose. Each house and region has distinct clothing, but it is clear that the Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow have the largest fanbase – and the simplest but most effective costumes to copy.

Marvels of the Universe

marvel

With movies such as Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers and Ant-Man, and so many devoted comic fans, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has outdone it’s printed sibling. At this point, there are so many amazing characters in the franchise that it is nigh impossible to choose – but apparently, most of the love is kept for a DC character – Batman. Marvel itself is more common with younger children, the legendary Spider-Man has been a favorite costume that well precedes the success of the MCU, and is closely followed by Iron Man, who has been a popular, if harder to make, costume choice since the release of the first Iron Man movie.

Disneyworld

disney

The majestic fairy tale conglomerate is an inexhaustible source of inspiration for cosplayers. We all have our favorite childhood Disney movie, but we can build on more than just nostalgia. Recent years have brought us few new recognizable characters (Frozen, obviously), but. The past two years saw so many females dressed as Elsa and Anna, and even more creative Frozen crossover outfits, but be careful- Maleficent might be around too.

The Show Must Go On

Following trends in cosplay is every bit as important as in fashion, and we have presented some that have stolen the show at recent ComicCons. This year has truly been the year of Mad Max and video games such as Assassins’ Creed. And with Halloween less than a month away, let’s see if you can pull out a fresh idea!

Indian Fashion Trends in Australia and Western Europe by Roxana Oliver

I did a similar post some time ago about Indian fashion around the world but this post is from an Australian author’s perspective which throws a new light on this. I hope you enjoy the post by Roxana.

Fashion trends around the world tend to be quite diverse but at the same time pretty much amazing. There is a big difference between Eastern and Western trends. But not only that, even countries that are from the same hemisphere but from a different region can differ with styles. And every style and fashion trend has something amazing and unique to it. That is why fashion designers all around the world are trying to incorporate foreign trends into their native ones to try and create a mix of cultures. These are some of the Indian trends that have grown in popularity in the latest period.

High Fashion

When it comes to high fashion, there are a lot of designers that are pushing this style to high masses. One of the most popular fashion garments, the wonderfully colorful Indian Sarees have been recognized by Australian and European designers. The sari represents a south-Asian female garment and is mostly associated with upper class and traditions. They can be worn in more than 80 ways and now they have found its use in high fashion all over Western Europe. Many women from Western parts of the world started wearing dresses similar to sarees and you can see them on fashion shows, fancy dinners and other formal gatherings.

Street Style

streetfash

This style is very popular among people in Australia and Western Europe, especially with young people. This style is transferred through India to Europe and Australia using specific materials from which these clothes are made but also from colorful patterns. You can see tons of people walking down the street with skirts of various colors, light shirts and some vibrant color scarves as an accessory.

Party Style

Combining Indian attire with some European trends came a long way. That way you can see plenty of young people partyingand rocking their new stylesall over Europe and Australia. Some of these things include wearing typical Indian fabrics such as lungi and ikat with some traditional Western trends like a pantsuit.

Formal And Wedding Wear

weddindiinspo

Luxury and formal wear has also found its way to Western culture. Also wedding attire made in Indian manner is growing in popularity. Many soon-to-be brides are choosing gowns that resemble those worn by women in India. They are incorporating the tradition Indian wear such as saree with some neutral and soft colors in order to create perfect dressed for the new brides. Formal wear for both men and women are getting quite the attention.

In order to create something new, trendy and hip, many designers resort to mixing different styles from different areas of the world. This can sometimes turn out great, like in this case where they combined traditional Indian attire with typical European and Australian trends. And people won’t stop here. They are striving to create a multicultural fashion trend and they are doing it great. There are of course people who don’t approve of these things as they believe that tradition is something that shouldn’t be altered. It remains just to see what else they have prepared for us.

What You Need to Know About Pearls So You Can Buy The Best Pearl Necklace for Your Jewelry Collection

Pearls are worn by people who want to make a statement with their jewelry. Also referred to as gemstones, pearls are formed from mollusks that have been given an irritant like sand, bacteria, or a piece of the mollusk’s mantle.

The procedure to form pearls can take up to 3 years, which is probably why they are such an expensive piece of jewelry. Despite the hefty price tag people don’t mind spending the money because a nice string of pearls are very beautiful and attractive. It is considered a classic piece of accessory for any occasion such as banquets, weddings, or even family reunions.

There are a lot of people that want to have a pearl necklace but don’t know what to look when picking one. It is important to know how to select a high quality pearl necklace since you you want to get the best value for your money. Take a look at some things you should know before buying your pearl necklace.

Freshwater & Saltwater Pearls

There are 2 separate categories for pearls and that includes freshwater and saltwater. Mussels that can be found in fresh water like ponds, lakes, and rivers are what produces fresh water pearls. Meanwhile, oysters that live in saltwater produce saltwater pearls.

There is no big difference in quality when it comes to saltwater and freshwater pearls. The most noticeable difference between them is that freshwater pearls tend to be smaller than their saltwater counterparts. The average freshwater pearl will be about 3mm to 12mm, while saltwater pearls will be between 8mm to 18mm or bigger.

Saltwater pearls have the classic round pearl shape, while freshwater has more of a off round, or rice shape. The shine of saltwater pearls are generally better than freshwater pearls. Thanks to their more round shape and brilliant luster saltwater pearls are usually considered more valuable than freshwater pearls. China is where most freshwater pearls come from, while the most common kinds of saltwater pearls are South Sea, Tahitian, and Akoya pearls.

Cultured Pearls vs Natural Pearls

One of the most common misconceptions when it comes to pearls is that cultured ones are fake. Both cultured and natural pearls are real pearls but they are formed differently.

Cultured are formed when a human introduces the irritant to the shells in order to initiate the mollusks natural defense mechanism that is necessary to make the pearl start to form. Meanwhile natural pearls are formed by accident within the oysters and mussels in the wild. There is no kind of human intervention with the formation of natural pearls.

Most of the pearls you’ll find in the jewelry stores these days are cultured, because natural pearls are rarely finished. Many of the natural pearls on the market are considered rare and vintage making them very expensive. It is hard for even experienced jewelers to tell the difference between natural and cultured pearls. The only true way to be certain is to examine underneath the surface of the pearl through x-rays.

Fake pearls are considered imitation pearls, which are stones that look similar to pearls. Unlike cultured or natural pearls imitations are produced by shaping plastic, shell, and glass into spheres. The imitation is then polished using something like lacquer to get a pearly appearance. Jewelers can tell a fake immediately by looking under a 10X lens.

How To Pick High Quality Pearls

How valuable pearls are in jewelry is not determined by just one factor. The color, nacre thickness, luster, shape, size, and surface quality should all play a part when you are trying to select a quality strand of pearls for your necklace.

The luster is the most important factor to determine the quality of a pearls. A reflective sheen on the pearl’s surface is the luster. The pearls that have the best luster are the ones that are left inside the mollusk longer. Pearls with low luster will usually look flat and one dimensional. To check the luster of your pearls you can place it under a fluorescent lamp.

When choosing your pearl necklace make sure that each pearl is drilled down the center so the necklace will lay correctly across your neck. Check the surface quality by placing the pearls against a dark background so you can tell if there are any blemishes or markings on the surface.

Before you buy a pearl necklace you should check the nacre thickness. The nacre is the substance that helps give the pearl it’s iridescent property during the formation process. The thicker the nacre the better because it will make the pearls last longer. If you want a thick nacre look for pearls that are at least 0.5mm of nacre. If you want more of a medium thickness try to find pearls that are at least 0.35mm, and for thin nacre look for pearls that are 0.25mm or lower.

Finally, before you buy any pearl necklace make sure the clasp is of good quality. The clasp not only helps add more elegance and appeal to your pearl necklace but also it helps to keep the pearls from getting scratched against each other.

A beautiful strand of pearls can definitely add elegance to your jewelry collection and wardrobe. Just make sure you do your due diligence and check and make sure you are investing in a quality pearl necklace. Always try to buy your pearls from a highly respected jeweler that has some kind of training in gemology.

Guest Post: How to Value a Diamond by Jonathan Butler

How to Value a Diamond: 4 Important Factors

image

The quality and therefore value of a diamond is clarified by four important characteristics – Carat, Colour, Clarity and Cut. If you can master these, then you’ve got a lot more knowledge to ensure you buy a beautiful diamond.

Carat

A carat is the unit of weight by which a diamond is measured. 1 carat is equal to 0.2 grams.

The price of a diamond rises equivalent to its size because large diamonds are found much less commonly, and therefore have a greater value per carat.

Clarity

Diamond clarity refers to flaws on the surface of and within the diamond. Flaws can occur during the diamond’s formation or during the cutting processes. Diamonds with few or no flaws are very rare and therefore more highly valued.

The scale runs from F through to I:

F: Flawless.

IF: Internally flawless.

VVS1 – VVS2: Very very slightly included.

VS1 – VS2: Very slightly included.

SI1 – SI2: Slightly included.

I1, I2, I3: Included.

Colour

Diamond colour refers to the amount of yellow colour that can be seen in white diamonds. The less colour a diamond has the more light it refracts, making the diamond more brilliant. As such the whiter a diamond is, the greater its value.

The scale runs from D through to Z:

D, E, F: Colourless.

G, H, I, J: Near colourless.

K, L, M: Faint yellow.

N, O, P, Q, R: Very light yellow.

S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, Z: Light yellow.

Cut

Diamond cut refers to the reflective qualities of the diamond. This shouldn’t be confused with the diamonds shape, which is the outward appearance of the diamond.

When a diamond is well cut, light will travel through reflecting from one side to the other and back out again. This will give it more brilliance. A poorly cut diamond will reflect less light back out and therefore have less brilliance.

When buying a diamonds be sure to ask about the gradings of colour and clarity, and also what the carat weight is as well how reflective the cut is. This will help determine the rarity of the diamond and therefore how valuable it is. If buying from an individual piece from a jeweller you can also ask to see certification (given by a legitimate association body) for the diamond to confirm its authenticity.

How daring are you feeling? If you don’t mind showing a bit of leg then high slit skirts are a trend for you. Slits on skirts and dresses are everywhere. If you’re not feeling as brave, consider wearing leggings under a skirt or dress or wearing a maxi skirt with a slit below the knee.
